The Hourglass is a modern purpose built public house set in a wonderful location on the outskirts of the popular market town of Devizes. Its chief attraction is its fabulous canalside patio, directly overlooking the Kennet and Avon Canal.
The pub is approached through a residential estate and is next door to Devizes Marina Village, with its basin providing berths for for narrowboats, several hire boats, and holiday lodges. The pub has its own car park with space for about thirty cars to the front and side, and a substantial brick built outbuilding.
An entrance porch from the front car park leads into the main ground floor trading area. The interior is well presented with an attractive bar display and serving counter, exposed brickwork and beams, and customer toilets. The seating capacity in the bar areas is about seventy five. French doors open out from the bar areas to an excellent paved canalside patio, which seats about sixty and is equipped with all-weather furniture.
Upstairs there is a versatile private meeting room, with windows overlooking the canal, an apex ceiling, and sky lights. This room has its own bar servery counter, and provides seating for about forty guests. Also on the first floor is the owners’ flat, comprising two double bedrooms, a small office, an open plan living room with a kitchen area, and a separate bathroom.
The pub benefits from a premises licence for the supply of alcohol, late night refreshment, and provision of facilities for music. Permitted hours are 11am until 11pm Sunday until Thursday, and 11am until midnight on Thursday, Friday and Saturday. The catering facilities for The Hourglass include a modern professional kitchen, a washing up area, a refrigerated beer store, and a small kitchen yard.
