Dunsley Rock Cottage, Kinver
Staffordshire and Worcestershire Canal
Offside Water's Edge
If you’d like to get away from it all, this canalside home is the one for you. It is incredibly secluded and peaceful and looks towards the tree lined Staffordshire and Worcestershire Canal. Its terraced garden slopes down to the property’s own 280 feet long stretch of canal bank, which enjoys mooring rights for two narrowboats.
The house sits on a secluded site measuring about 1.25 acres. There is a car parking area for about three cars in nearby Dunsley Drive, and from here you approach the house along a woodland path. (Note that viewings are strictly by appointment only). The majority of the grounds are woodland, and many of the trees are protected by a conservation order which helps to assure the future of this peaceful setting. As there is no driveway to the cottage, all major removals or deliveries would generally be carried out by boat. There are great local amenities in nearby Kinver Village, so you can participate in local community life if you so wish.
You enter the house through a large porch which opens into an impressive double height entrance hall, with exposed brick walls and a wood clad ceiling giving it a rustic cabin atmosphere. This is a wonderful feature, but it would be possible to replace the floor that was removed here to create an extra bedroom. Stairs rise from the hallway to a galleried landing on the first floor. The hallway is entirely open on the right side to the large sitting room. This is a through room with a solid fuel stove, a window to the front looking out over the wonderful views, and patio doors to the rear, overlooking the sandstone caves in the courtyard behind the house. There is also a small office or work room just to the right of the lounge, with its own door and window to the front. From the entrance hall an inner hall leads to a cloakroom, and a small utility room with a door to the rear. To the left it opens into a large farmhouse kitchen-diner, with a natural tiled floor, a solid fuel stove, a window with views to the front, and a door to the front garden.
Upstairs the galleried landing leads to three double bedrooms and a bathroom. Bedrooms one and two both have windows to the front with wonderful views of the canal and woodland. The landing and the main bedroom also have doors onto a large decked area at the rear of the cottage which wraps around the side of the house and leads to the front of the property via a short flight of steps. This decking currently houses a hot tub, which is incredibly private.
